                   Resell your car

Your decision is made, you are going to part with your good "old titin"! But how exactly can this be done? The process cannot be improvised. It's because there, outside, some sharks are waiting for you around the bend! Let's see, point by point, how to proceed and through which channel if necessary.

Two easy solutions but not profitable

Your car is very old, sometimes broken down, and good for scrap. Go to a breaker and see what he has to offer (type "car breaker in Belgium" on a search engine and you will already have at least 15!).

But before you break your car, consult the announcements of companies that sell cars abroad (mainly in Africa). By going through them, you will perhaps earn a few hundred dollars more.

These companies, very active, generally pay cash (but do not hesitate to bargain firmly!) And often make themselves known by placing a small card on your driver's door … Another solution, if you have decided to buy a new vehicle: take back your old car from the dealership.

Many are tempted by ease, but if your car is in good condition, the dealership will do the right thing! It is not at all impossible that, when you come back to his place for your first interview, you will see your ex-car displayed at a much larger amount than the one you were supposedly generously granted …

Define the value of your car

Lower your price if your car has covered more than 15,000 km per year (from 0.0457 to 0.1219 per additional kilometer, depending on the fiscal power and energy) if it is damaged (scratches, accident) or if significant costs are to be incurred in the short term.

But increase it reasonably according to the options present on your vehicle (and of which you can quantify more or less the value by consulting the official websites of the brands).

If you have made fewer kilometers than the average (from 0.0076 to 0.0381 per kilometer less, depending on fiscal power and energy).

Likewise, you can compare your car to similar ones sold on specialized sites, a list of which you will find below.

Place an ad on a site for resale your car

The classifieds in the Vlan or any other paper box, it still exists, but it's worn out, you have to live with the times.

Today, what goes fastest and is the most efficient is the Net. In Belgium, there are many specialized sites.

Here is a non-exhaustive list, voluntarily established in no order of preference or importance: Autozone.behttp://Autozone.be (the only paying agent on this list); but Occasion.be; lemoniteurautomobile.be; vroom.be; auto live.be;

Petitesannonces.be; 2emain.be; autovlan.be; kapala.be; autoscout24.be; hobbies.be (Dutch-speaking site).

Do not forget the photos of your vehicle for the advertisement; without them, prospective buyers skip you almost every time!

The formalities for resale your car

Since 2006, a thorough second-hand technical inspection (in addition to the normal inspection) has been introduced as well as a certificate (Car-Pass) which certifies the accuracy of the odometer to better protect the buyer of a used vehicle.

When going through the inspection, you must specify that you are going to resell the car (this Used certificate has a lifespan of 2 months).

Please note: this process is not necessary for the event of a sale between spouses, legal cohabitants, or children with the transfer of the license plate.

The documents and parts necessary for resale your car

When you sell your car to an individual, you must provide him with the following documents: the Registration Request received at the technical control (the buyer must send it to his auto insurance company who will put his seal on it certifying that the vehicle is insured and then send the request to the DIV); the Car-Pass mileage certificate (without it, the buyer can cancel the sale); the Certificate of Conformity (gray card from the manufacturer); a Used Car Invoice; the Technical Inspection Inspection Certificate + the "Vehicle Condition" report; the Keys and (all) their doubles.

Documents to be kept ready for resale your car

There are 2: the pink sheet (registration certificate), which was anyway stamped during the second-hand technical control and has lost its validity; the plates, which are your property and are issued in your name and will be used on your next vehicle.

If you no longer intend to use a vehicle in your name, you must return them within 4 months to the DIV to have them canceled (DIV - Radiations Department - Rue du Progrès 56, 1210 Brussels).

Getting paid safely

The best is to require a check certified by a (Belgian) bank, the buyer's name must be included (check with the identity card and possibly contact the agency by phone to check if the document is authentic).

Please note, since January 1, 2014, cash payments are limited to 10% of the total price of a property, with a maximum of € 3,000.

Likewise, to verify the authenticity of the banknotes, you can either go through a bank or introduce them into an ATM that accepts cash deposits; if the tickets are wrong… they will be automatically rejected by the device!

Our advice:

Know that to sell your car well yourself, you will have to devote time to it (taking pictures, writing an ad, welcoming potential buyers, testing …).

It's up to you to see if the game is worth the candle. Usually yes, if your car is in good condition. The key is to accept the constraints linked to a better resale.
